If you have never done this, I can’t recommend this enough. We have a little wooden manger which the children place a piece of yarn into every time they make a sacrifice or do something especially nice for someone.
They become so concerned that Jesus will have a nice soft bed at Christmas that they constantly are reminding each other to do things to fill up that manger.
The empty manger is also a constant reminder that they must make a nice place for Jesus, in His manger and in their hearts.
You can use a box or baby doll cradle during Advent, and then add a baby doll to represent Jesus and place Him under the tree (in His nice, soft, filled manger) on Christmas Eve.
