What do we know about Guardian Angels?

In the Bible, St. Paul calls Angels “ministering spirits sent to serve, for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation” (Hebrews 1:14). Jesus, too, speaks about Angels, particularly the Guardian Angels of little children! When speaking about children, Jesus says, “See that you despise not one of these little ones: for I say to you, that their Angels in Heaven always see the face of My Father who is in Heaven” (Matthew 18:10).

Pope Benedict XVI, in a Sunday Angelus address from October 2, 2011, reminds us all to call on our Guardian Angels, and says, “Dear friends, the Lord is ever close and active in humanity’s history and accompanies us with the unique presence of His Angels, whom today the Church venerates as “Guardian Angels,” that is, ministers of the divine care for every human being. From the beginning until the hour of death, human life is surrounded by their constant protection.” The Catechism of the Catholic Church reminds us that Angels’ have a special job to help bring about God’s plan of salvation, and Guardian Angels do this by guiding and protecting each person on earth! (CCC 328-336)

Guardian Angels can’t force us to do something, though, so you should pray to your Angel often so that you can listen when he guides you. Pray to your baby’s Angel, too, to help guide and protect your baby and your baby’s parents!
