Description

"I wish I could give this 10 stars! What an amazing book!! Theology of Covenant, the Fourth Cup of Passover (which I just read about in Scott Hahn's book, The Fourth Cup), even St. Faustina and Divine Mercy is in there, along with my absolutely favorite prayer to St. Joseph. The attention to detail, the solid Catholic teaching, the sacraments are all beautifully presented using Legos. Legos. If someone had told me two weeks ago that I would be raving about a book about the sacraments that used Legos as a teaching tool, I would have thought they were crazy. But what a great idea!! And even better, it works!!"
-Maureen

Join your friendly guides Fulton and Cynthia on a biblical adventure as they journey from creation to salvation and discover the importance of Godís sanctifying grace. Set in a vivid comic-book format with stunning photographs, this book makes profound theological concepts accessible to both the Catholic and the curious, the child and the adult.

I was driving with my son, and he started telling me stuff about Passover, and Jesus being the Lamb of God and all the connections between Passover and Holy Week. He's 7, in first grade. I recognized that he had his theology correct, but I could not for the life of me figure out where he had HEARD that stuff. So I asked him, "Where did you learn that?" He said, "It was in my Catechism book." "The lego one?" "Yeah."

Oh, well, then. So my seven year old is basically reading Scott Hahn in Lego form. I was a reasonably well-catechized kid, and I was an adult before I heard any of the theology he was explaining to me.

-Mom of 7-year-old

Following Pope Emeritus Benedict XVIís teachings on Covenant Theology, this book sheds light on the parallels between the Old Testament and the New Testament and the sacraments instituted by Christ that we experience today. Readers will develop a deeper understanding of salvation history, discover how to participate in Godís covenant, and learn how to obtain grace through the sacraments, which are essential on our lifelong journey to the Eternal Promised Land.

My bibliophile 9 year old daughter loves this book, but it is too busy for her younger siblings (and can be a difficult font).  It does have some pre-Vatican II notions. (Like altar railings and veil coverings- Few churches still have even partial railings, but there is a revival of women veiling.)
Our diocese has reOrdered rite, so the Sacrament of Confirmation is a bit off, but my biggest issue is that Anointing of the Sick "conversation" does not have correct information- Anointing of the Sick and last rites are NOT the same thing; last rites is comprised of three sacraments- Confession, Anointing, Eucharist.  With the rest of the book having such beautiful content, and so many accolades, I had expected correct content throughout.  We've had great discussions come from this book, but it's disappointing that had to correct an entire Sacrement teaching.
